Materials
These traditionally sacred pipes are made of wood covered with either rawhide or buckskin and fringe. Deer or elk horn is often used for the bowl and mouthpiece. A medicine bag or medicine wheel is sometimes attached.
Description
Traditional Native American peace pipe ceremonies have three people in attendance. Traditionally they are used to offer prayers in a religious ceremony, to make a ceremonial commitment, or to seal a covenant or treaty. The pipe ceremony may be a component of a larger ceremony or held as a sacred ceremony in and of itself.
