Description
The bear has been depicted in ancient drawings and Native American bear claw jewelry to indicate that the bear was an important part of spiritual life in early American history. Tribes believed the “great Spirit” would take the shape of a bear. When the bear was killed, it was believed that its blood would return to the Earth and help change the seasons. These necklaces were considered to contain spiritual power, wearing a bear claw necklace would mean protection and good health to the wearer. They were never traded, but they could be given as a special gift. Today the sale of any bear part is illegal.
